Governed by a community based volunteer Board of Directors, the School is supported by fundraising, student fees, donations and grants. People involved in the School recognize the importance of art and believe that affordable fine arts programming should be available to the Kingston community. Summer Art Classes
“Anyone Can Do Art & I’ll Prove It!” with Debbie Ottman-Smith
Sundays 1PM to 3PM. Five weeks beginning May 24th until June 28th (No class June 14.)
Notice how drawing or painting seems to come so naturally to some people? Not me; growing up I was envious of my class-mates who had the gift! I was finally able to because of my desire. In my classes I teach everyday people how to make their very own masterpiece. I believe learning realism first builds confidence. Individuality is a top priority in all my classes. Here you will learn the fundamentals through lessons and projects designed for honing your skills and stretching your imagination. Choose any medium; I can help you manipulate pencils (coloured or graphite), paints (acrylic, watercolour or w/s oils – no turps please). More experienced students may opt to choose their own projects – everyone will have one-on-one time for my assistance.
Materials Not Included. Click here for more information.
“The Art of Tangling” with Lori St Clair
Thursdays 9:30AM to 12:30PM. Two weeks ($75) or four weeks ($140) starting June 4.
Remember what it was like to escape into a creative moment as your pen doodled on a piece of paper while listening to someone or something? Peaceful, relaxing, inspiring. If we re-created that creative space and gave you freedom to explore it, what would you find? Many delightful and inspiring surprises no doubt! This is the environment that “tangling” offers. A relaxing journey into the process of creativity and the freedom to follow where it leads.
You are first introduced to a few patterns to use and adapt, creating variations as your string suggests. Then a few more patterns are gradually introduced. As you learn the principles and elements of a successful design, you can add colour to further enhance your tangle. It is relaxing and fun. No experience necessary, just a spirit of adventure.
Drop-In for Beginners: “Give Art a Try” with Debbie Ottman-Smith

Give Art a Try … Learn the Skills needed to Wield Paint Brushes or Pencils. This 4 week session is a trial run designed for true beginners. No wasted money on materials you may never use again! Find out what it is really all about, learn how to see through the eyes of an artist; after all you never know until you try! Paints [oils/acrylics/watercolours], pencils, brushes, canvases and paper supplied by the KSOA. What a great Mother’s Day Gift this would be!
