Welcome back, Queen’s! We’re so excited to kick off 2019 with you!
Our goal is to promote all upcoming events across all faculties, all years & all clubs. We want to make it easy for you to discover interesting guest speakers, film screenings, concerts, conferences, fundraisers, dances, cultural activities… and so much more!
Highlights of Week 1 Events
Swing Dance Lesson – perfect for those who have never swing-danced before, but want to give it a try! No partner or experience is required. Free and open to all Queen’s students! Monday at 7:30pm in JDUC.
“and the journey continues” – monthly open mic poetry reading series. Tuesday at 6:30pm at The Elm Cafe (off-campus).
Sewing Workshop: Reversible Infinity Scarf – This is a beginner friendly project and basic sewing machine knowledge is suggested. All supplies provided. Cost: $45. Tuesday at 6pm at Open Studios Kingston (off-campus).
Sewing Workshop: Handmade Wardrobe – This is a beginner sewing class, where you can make Pajama Pants/Shorts! Basic sewing machine knowledge required. Tuesday at 6pm at Knit Stitch Sew (off-campus).
Sewing Workshop: Sewing Machine Basics – Learn how to sew a drawstring bag in this 2-hour class! All supplies provided. Cost: $45. Thursday at 6pm at Knit Stitch Sew (off-campus).
Queen’s Dance Club winter registration – sign-up for a ballet, jazz, tap, hip-hop & other student-run on-campus dance classes in the ARC! Don’t wait – limited spaces available. Wednesday at 11am & Thursday at 11am in ARC.
Hustle Dance Workshop – Hustle is a partner dance much like swing and salsa, but born from disco music in 1970s America. Come solo or as a pair! Tuesday at 8pm in JDUC.
Auditions for Othello – Queen’s Vagabond is seeking actors of all genders, shapes, sizes and backgrounds for its winter production. For the title role, the company is seeking an actor of colour. Wednesday through Saturday at 5pm-8pm, location TBD.
Upholstery 101 – Why not learn how to re-do that chair or footstool yourself? Saturday at 1pm at 106 Pine St. (off-campus).
Inside (the) Agnes – Insider art talks, musical performances and tea in the historic Etherington House – this month featuring celebrated composer and pianist John Burge. Free & open to the public. Sunday at 2pm at Agnes Etherington Art Centre.
Kingston Symphony: Schumann & Beethoven – Vast, sweeping, significant works dominate this concert lineup. Don’t wait! This show will sell out quickly. Cost: $15-$50. Sunday at 2:30pm at The Isabel.
Life Lessons from a Nature Photographer – Kyle Blaney will inspire the audience with stories and photos from wilderness adventures across North America. Monday at 7:15pm at Dunning Hall.
“From B to A: How to Improve Your Grades This Year” – free 50-minute workshop to start the year off strong! Wednesday at 1:30pm at Stauffer Library seminar room 121.
Medical School/CARMS Interview Prep Workshop – The Muslim Medical Association of Queen’s will be hosting workshops to help students prepare. Wednesday at 6pm at New Medical Building.
Policy Talks: Kasia Bruski on what Canada can learn from the NHS – free lecture open to all students, staff, faculty and the public. Thursday at 12pm at Robert Sutherland Hall room 202.
Queen’s University Arts Leadership Reception – Meet and chat with art industry professionals and representatives from the Queen’s University Dan School of Drama and Music. Free event. Wednesday at 5pm at The Isabel.

“Build your Weekly Schedule” drop-in – Get organized! Peer Learning Assistants can help you plan a weekly schedule this semester. Thursday at 12pm-4pm at Vic Hall lobby.
“Taking Better Notes” workshop – Free 50-minute workshop to help you pay attention to the most important parts of the lecture and your readings, organize your information in an effective way, and revise for exams. Friday at 1:30pm at Stauffer Library room 121.
Observatory Open House – Come and experience the wonders of our Universe from the smallest planets to the largest galaxies! Free event, open to the public. Saturday at 7:30pm at Ellis Hall auditorium.
Queen’s Technology Exhibition – Join QWeb, Merlin Neurotech, QMind, QSort, QBit, Network Security, and QUANTT to get the first look at the future of innovation and technology at Queen’s University! Free food! Sunday at 9:30am-5:30pm in Mitchell Hall.
New Year Yoga at the Tett – Infuse the new year with a positive mindset! Join Becca Snowdon for an evening of intention setting and yoga, surrounded by breathtaking winter Lake Ontario views. Cost: $10-$13. Tuesday 6:30pm at Tett Centre for Creativity & Learning.
4-week New Year Yoga Flow with Lily Barr – In this class we will work to gently challenge our bodies with movement and breath. Cost: $60 for 4 weeks. Tuesday at 7:30pm at Painted Lady Fitness (off-campus).
The Art of Yoga – Offering intentionally and compassionately curated yoga, through thoughtful instruction. Take the time to connect with your body, inspire the mind, and nourish the soul. Cost: $17. Wednesday 10am at SimplyWell (off-campus).
Four Directions Beading Circle – Led by Karen Lawford from the Department of Gender Studies at Queen’s. Free & open to all students.

Four Directions Hand-Drumming Circle – All skill levels welcome! If you are able, please bring your drum. Free & open to all students. Thursday 3:30pm at 146 Barrie St.
Doc Screening: “Redefining Sanity through Struggle” – This doc discusses mental unwellness and the fundamentally social and interconnected nature of people. Thursday 7pm at 80 Queen St. (off-campus).
QUIC Workshop “Learning to Love Winter” – the International Student Advisor will provide Canadian winter climate tips for success, wellness, clothing and more. Newly arrived international students are encouraged to participate. Thursday 3:30pm in Mitchell Hall (2nd floor).
Memorial Centre Farmers’ Market – Kingston’s only year-round farmers’ market — where the farmers you meet grow the food you eat! Hot foods, live music & arts activities weekly. Sunday 10am-2pm at Kingston Memorial Centre (off-campus).
Harry Potter-themed Dinner (19+) – Cost: $40, which includes 3 courses & 3 drinks. Tuesday 7pm at Tir Nan Og (off-campus).
5 à 7 Franco / French Connection (AA+) – Meet other French speakers meet in a friendly atmosphere. Hosted by Centre Culturel Frontenac. Thursday 5pm-7pm at Tango Nuevo (off-campus).
Unit 115 Art Exhibition Reception – an exhibition in the Kingston Arts Council’s gallery in the Tett Centre, highlighting new works by Kelly Addison Art. Free beverages. Thursday at 6pm at Tett Centre.
Ice Cold Comedy Festival (19+) – Top headliners from all over the world perform over 4 nights! Passes are $20. Wednesday through Saturday, various times, at Don Cherry’s and BLU Martini (off-campus).
Pop Punk Pizza Party (19+) – Black your eyes, grab your Hot Topic band tee and come marching down to Barcadia! Thursday 9pm at Barcadia (off-campus).
Frost Week Ritual (19+) – Clark Hall Pub’s classic Friday afternoon social is back! Open to all students, not just engineers, but must be 19+ and show Queen’s ID (not open to the public). Friday 12pm-6pm at Clark Hall Pub.
SGPS International Grad Student Social – Meet new people and discover the new QUIC space! Free food and karaoke machine. Friday 5:30pm at Mitchell Hall (2nd floor).
SGPS Greetings at the Grizz – Grad Students – play some free pool and meet some new people! All skill levels encouraged. Thursday 7:30pm at The Grizzly Grill (off-campus).
Gaels Basketball vs. Ryerson – Back-to-back Women’s and Men’s home games in the ARC this Friday night! Tickets are FREE with your Queen’s student ID, or $8 online, $10 at the door. Friday 6pm & 8pm at ARC.
Shoot for the Cure – Raising funds and awareness for breast cancer initiatives with the Queen’s Gaels Men’s and Women’s Basketball vs. Toronto Varsity Blues on Saturday night! Saturday 6pm & 8pm at ARC.
Blades of Glory shinny tournament – Raising money for local children with exceptionalities, to help them take weekly cooking classes and learn essential life skills. Saturday 12pm at Victoria Park (off-campus).
Repair Cafe Kingston – Toss it? No way! Bring your broken items and we will work with you to fix them on the spot with the help of our fixers. Sunday 2pm at 206 Concession St. (off-campus).
OHL Hockey: North Bay vs. Kingston – Cheer on your Kingston Frontenacs as they take on the best hockey teams in Ontario this season! Cost: $20-$30. Sunday 6pm at Leon’s Centre (off-campus).
