Toronto-based artists bill bissett, Aisha Sasha John, David Bateman and Kingston’s own Armand Garnet Ruffo will take the stage Saturday, April 1st at Modern Fuel Artist-Run Centre for the one night only event sound one two. Audio and beats performed by Burning Iceberg.
This event is happening due to the generous contribution of time and space by Modern Fuel Artist-Run Centre, located at the TETT Centre in Kingston, Ontario and with support from 253469, the Canada Council for the Arts and The League of Canadian Poets. The Featured Artist:
bill bissett is a celebrated poet who has published over 60 books, contributing to the landscape of Canadian literature and contemporary art for over 40 years. In 2006, Margaret Atwood and Leonard Cohen were two of more than 80 writers who honoured the poet with a tribute published by Nightwood Editions. In 2007 bissett’s sound poetry was sampled by The Chemical Brothers on their CD “We Are The Night”. In that same year, bissett was awarded the George Woodcock Lifetime Achievement Award for contributions to literature in British Columbia. In 2008 the poet was given an Honorary Doctorate in Literature from Thompson Rivers University. bill bissett is a poet and visual artist with roots that go back to the generation of Beat poets. In 1968, Jack Kerouac was famously quoted in the Paris Review as naming bill bissett one of the “great poets”.
