Nature Play – Take Childhood Back

Thursday, April 27th @ 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM

This stunning, award-winning documentary takes the viewer on an inspiring Education journey to the Nordic North in a cinematic portrait of childhood, education and play. Filmed in Denmark, Norway, Sweden and the US, NaturePlay portrays the Scandinavian method of teaching, living and enjoying nature that is juxtaposed with the high stakes/high stress American testing culture. NaturePlay finds a way to TAKE CHILDHOOD BACK in Nordic Udeskole (outdoor school) concepts in outdoor learning and playing in nature. Featuring the different ways Udeskole is practiced in Scandinavia through forest kindergartens, adventure playgrounds, teaching outdoors, increased recess, afterschool clubs, and naturebased play areas the film investigates the Nordic research and cultural “Friluftsliv”, (Free Air Life) attitudes behind it all. The film has won seven international awards, including one for Cinematography and a Global Humanitarian Award.

Proceeds from ticket sales will go to Kingston’s local chapter of Hike it Baby to help and encourage families to get outside with their kids!
