FREE Dark Matter Day @ Queen’s

Monday, October 23rd @ 7:30 PM - 9:30 PM

Don’t be afraid of the dark! To celebrate International Dark Matter Day, join us for a public talk that will include treats, spooks, and lots of cosmic fun!

There are still many puzzles in our Universe to be solved, but few are quite as puzzling as dark matter. The invisible matter doesn’t glow or absorb light, yet it makes up about 85% of all matter in the Universe! Luckily, astronomers and physicists from all over Canada are on the case. From the first evidence of dark matter observed in faraway galaxies to the cutting-edge instruments right on the verge of detecting it for the first time ever, this is your chance to get a dynamic overview of the history of dark matter, why it matters, and what we’re doing to find it!

The Canadian Particle Astrophysics Research Centre and Queen’s University in collaboration with the Dunlap Institute (University of Toronto) will be hosting a public talk featuring several astronomers and physicists performing cutting-edge research on the subject of dark matter. Find out what dark matter is, how we know it exists, and what we’re doing to study it! You’ll also have the chance to speak one-on-one with Queen’s researchers taking part in SNOLAB’s search for dark matter. Learn about how their experiments are bettering our understanding of the Universe, and get a treat!

This event is FREE and does not require registration. The event starts at 7.30pm, the talk starts at 8.00pm. Join us in the Stirling Auditorium. There will be candy and prize giveaways!
