“Bee Nation” Screening to Sprout Hope Gardens
Monday, December 4th @ 5:30 PM - 8:30 PM
Join Focus Forward for Indigenous Youth and community partners for a special screening of the Lana Šlezić’s film Bee Nation! The fundraiser will also include a silent art auction featuring beautiful works from Indigenous and non-Indigenous artists.
The proceeds from this fundraiser will be going to our inaugural greenhouse build in Montreal Lake Cree Nation. Phase-one of the build just kicked-off where students had the opportunity to work on skid-steers to install a part of the foundation; it was a huge success. The students are already talking about phase-two scheduled for the spring, building the structure – all we need to do is source the remainder of the funding to make it happen!
Doors open at 5:30 pm and the screening starts at 6:00 pm.
Tickets are only $7 and can be purchased online:
About the Film:
Lana Šlezić’s Bee Nation is a heart-warming and inspiring film about the First Nations youth and their families in Saskatchewan who compete at their first-ever provincial and national Canadian Spelling Bee. The Canadian documentary Bee Nation was selected as the opening night film at the 2017 Hot Docs Film Festival. The film has been screened across Canada and has developed collaborative partnerships including Indspire, an indigenous-led charity investing in education and fostering bright futures for First Nation, Métis, and Inuit youth.
